Establishing Expectations

Writing, research and critical reading have, for the most part, been easy for me to grasp. Although, I find that my writing skills can be below par when compared to my ability to break down a piece of text. If given time, I can breakdown and comprehend writings like Hamlet and Shakespeare and even delve into writings of poetry like Walt Whitman. But writing tends to be an obstacle for me and I took this course in hopes that it can increase my writing ability. Not to mention, I'd also like to get an understanding of what is involved and expected in college writing as a posed to what was expected in high school.
One other aspect that I would hope to improve as a result of this course is my ability to create well-reasoned essays in a short span of time. Timed essays have always been my mortal enemy. I find myself able to come up with plenty of ideas in my head but unable to transfer it to paper in a reasoned manner without ample time to straitened my thoughts. But, from what I have perceived so far, this course will, at the least, force me to make the needed adjustments. So may the odds be in my favor.

  1. I'm the same way with the communication of what I'm trying to convey in writing. Creating a device to meaning chart is something I have to do personally to help me convey my the meaning of the text properly. By doing that extra step, it allows me more time to think of the better words to use.
