As a Marvel fan I have much regret to say that I’ve never
read any actual comics. When newspapers were still relevant, I used to ask my
mom for the paper and read the comic strips in the morning. My favorite is
Garfield, which I cannot actually recall reading in a newspaper. In my elementary
school, they had huge books of collections of Garfield strips, which amused me
to no end. They were humorous in my 5th grade mind, and I liked the
action-to-action transitions that may have displayed Garfield hitting John’s
dog, Odie or Garfield stuffing his face with lasagna. I have read a few manga,
but not as seriously as some people do. I used to read a lot in middle school,
but I am keeping up with Attack on Titan now. I’m guessing that the
illustrations found in manga would be different because Western comics use more
subject-to-subject while manga uses more aspect-to-aspect.
I think I've actually seen a couple strips of Garfield over the course of my childhood. They seemed funny enough, and since I'm a gigantic animal lover, It was great reading about the orange fur-ball from time to time. As for marvel, I just haven't gotten around to reading Marvel or DC in general.

ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in checking out recent Marvel comics, let me suggest G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel or Matt Fraction's Hawkeye.
