When I was choosing a college to attend, I wanted something relatively close by and affordable; that also gave students the opportunity to easily meet with their professors. I had done my research on this school, but after I saw the scholarship and the small class sizes, I decided that I would attend TLU. My family is what influenced me to go to college, being that I will be the first one in my family to attend. They want me to go, so I an get a good education that will lead to a good career. With my background and experience, business is the major that I chose. Still, I had my doubts about if going to college would be worth it. As Owen and Sawhill say in Should Everyone Go To College? "A bachelor's degree is not a smart investment for every student in every circumstance." Additionally, Charles Murray discusses intrinsic rewards in his paper, Are Too Many People Going To College?, allowing people to consider the comparison of "the satisfaction of being good at what one does for a living (and knowing it), compared to the melancholy of being mediocre at what one does for a living (and knowing it)." In my case, if I go to get my degree, I want it to be for a career I enjoy, and I want my bachelor's degree to be a good investment. Nevertheless, TLU looks like an excellent university. I have already made friends and am excited to begin my first year in the fall.
Its always good when you have such a good influence for college. My parents are the ones who influenced me too, just to study something productive. I hope your first year proves to be a wonderful one.
ReplyDeleteI think it is appealing to see that in addition to the research put into choosing TLU, you have already acquainted yourself with the area and students. I am inspired by and can connect with the fat that you are the first to attend college in your family. While I may not be the first to attend college, my family does have high expectations for higher education in the future. This positive influence from both of our families can lead us to great things.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I would like to say congratulations on becoming the first in your family to attend college! You will become a great example for any younger siblings or relatives you have. Being accepted into any college is a huge accomplishment in itself. I agree that attending college only teaches students more about the real world and whatever field they are interesting. It is better to be the best and something, than to be mediocre. I wish great success in finding a career you enjoy, and a great return on your investments in TLU!
